Ove Edfors, "Algorithms for Wireless Communication"

Ove Edfors, Lund University, Sweden

In this presentation I will give an overview of some of the work taking place at Lund University in the area of wireless communication. The talk will address very large MIMO systems, energy efficient medium access for ultra-portable devices and a continuation of the the multi-standard concept from the first talk. The multi-standard part of the talk will focus on general properties of OFDM-based systems and the opportunities it gives in terms of designing algorithms for, e.g. channel estimation, that are maximally similar between different standards. By designing such algorithms we increase the possibilities for hardware re-use and reduce the total memory requirements when concurrent processing of several standards is done in the same terminal.

Ove Edfors received the M.Sc. degree in computer science and electrical engineering in 1990 and the Ph.D. degree in signal processing in 1996, both from Luleå University of Technology, Sweden. In the spring of 1997 he worked as a researcher at the Division of Signal Processing at the same university and in July 1997 he joined the staff at the Department of Electrical and Information Technology, Lund University, Sweden, where he is a professor of Radio Systems since 2002. His research interests include radio systems, statistical signal processing and low-complexity algorithms with applications in telecommunication.
